Welcome to Mt. St. A University, where the first woman in the British Commonwealth graduated with a Bachelor’s degree! From 1854-1971, Mt. St. A was actually called Mt. St. A’s Ladies’ College and School for Girls. In 1875, Gracie Annie Lockhart became the first woman with a Bachelor’s degree from Mt. St. A after receiving a Bachelor of Science. Since then, Mt. St. A has made many steps towards honouring all educated women throughout the campus. It is renowned in Atlantic Canada for being the top undergraduate university in MacSkinny’s rankings for the 26th year in a row. And they’ll never let you forget it!

Classes start bright and early, and if you did not manage to catch the Flamings scrambled breakfast, why not head over to Gracie’s Café? Named after the first woman to earn a Bachelor’s degree in the British empire, the popular hangout spot honours Gracie’s work with a selection of Gracie’s sandwiches, Gracie’s salads, and Gracie’s homemade meals! Gracie’s Café is located in Gracie’s Student Centre, where students can go for administrative problems!

After breakfast at Gracie’s, Mt. St. A offers an array of dusty, decrepit buildings to earn your own Bachelor’s degree. Closest to Gracie’s Student Centre is the Sir Gracie Dunn Building. If you stroll a little further, you’ll end up in Gracie’s academic quad, including Gracie’s R.I.P. Bell Library, Gracie’s Shart Hall, and Gracie’s Phlegmington.

It sounds like Mt. St. A is great for its small class sizes, close-knit community, and hands-on learning opportunities. Everybody knows everybody, and everybody knows Gracie Annie Lockhart! The school is full of opportunities to get to know your professors, form close bonds with your peers, and discover available internships and research opportunities. It sure also helps when the school offers millions of dollars of scholarships, including a special commemorative Grace Annie Lockhart Scholar Award valued at CA$10,000.00, a potential total of $40,000.00 over four years!

After class, why not explore Ballsackville for all it has to offer? Head on down to the bars, such as Dicky’s, to get the full country music experience with a Gracie’s Guinness. Next door at Feiner’s, you can get more of Gracie’s sandwiches. And if you ask around, you’ll likely meet plenty of Gracies in town!

Mt. St. A University is a wonderful place full of opportunity and Gracie Annie Lockhart. As you work towards your seven year degree, don’t forget that you are standing in the same Conviction Hall as the first woman in the British empire to earn a Bachelor’s degree.
