The inside scoop on local job opportunities
As Mt.A students approach the end of the 2025-26 academic year, many students are beginning to consider summer employment opportunities in the area. Fortunately, Sackville and surrounding towns have a number of options for work. Ranging from part-time to full-time work and internships, having a Sackville summer could be a fun way to earn some money.
In Aulac, Trueman’s Blueberry Farm is hiring staff with a walk-in interview session on March 17. About a 10 minute drive away from Sackville, Trueman’s is a fun place to spend a warm sunny day with delicious homemade ice cream. The farm also has a seasonal food court/canteen and an outdoor children’s play course. Responsibilities include working with customers, scooping ice cream, preparing food, as well as handling cash and debit terminals.

Tantramar Heritage Trust on Queens Road. in Sackville is also hiring students for three different roles over the summer. These jobs include multiple positions for researcher/museum interpreter, focused on giving tours and conducting research about local history. Other roles include assistant positions for collections, the research centre, and archives. A 14-week internship, sponsored by Crake Community Programming, is also available to Mt.A students through the Experiential Learning department. This role involves serving as a liaison between the Tantramar Heritage Trust and local community organizations like children’s summer camps and the weekly farmers’ market. All summer jobs at Tantramar Heritage Trust would be a great fit for any history student.
Second Chances Thrift Store is one of Sackville’s newest non-profits. Owned and operated by the Sackville Food Bank, Second Chances is a great way to bring new life into your old clothes and household items, as well as shop sustainably. As Second Chances as a non-profit, paid job positions are not available, but the organization is actively seeking volunteers. To apply to volunteer, stop by the Sackville Commons Co-op at 18 Lorne St. during hours of operation. Second Chances recently extended their Thursday hours from closing at 3 p.m. to now at 7 p.m., thanks to more volunteer coverage.
The Municipality of Tantramar has a number of student summer roles available, including five positions for public works student labourers. The active living and culture department is hiring student maintenance workers and coordinators to keep local parks well-kept. Also as a part of active living and culture, summer programming coordinators and staff will work to create fun summer events and opportunities for people of all ages. A roster of lifeguards and a head lifeguard are being sought to staff the beach at Lillas Fawcett Park. Lastly, the Visitor Centre at Waterfowl Park is hiring a travel counsellor and a visitor information supervisor, both of which are English and French-only positions. The municipality’s diverse jobs are a great opportunity for university students and high schoolers alike to get some busy, but rewarding, work outdoors or working with visitors and townsfolk. Any of these roles is a great opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at the municipal level in Sackville.
For environmental science and biology students, Nature NB is hiring summer interns for species-at-risk technician roles. Based in Sackville, this internship focuses on monitoring Monarch butterfly and bird populations, as well as developing pollinator habitats. The job also involves community-focused work to lead and assist community science programs and develop educational materials. This internship is a great opportunity for Mt.A students studying ecological or environmental sciences and working with the greater community.
Another opportunity to work directly for Mt.A is getting involved with the orientation crew, committee, or international orientation (IO) facilitators. These roles are volunteer-based and can be paired with other summer employment options as they start in the weeks prior to first classes in the fall 2026 term. The orientation committee is slightly more intensive and involves planning events and scheduling ahead of time throughout the summer months, whereas the orientation crew only needs to be available during orientation week to run events. Meanwhile, IO facilitators must be available from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 to welcome international students and run events on and off campus in advance of orientation week. All three types of volunteer positions are a great way to get involved with campus life and create an exciting and memorable few days for incoming new students in the fall.
While this list showcases some noteworthy jobs for summer employment locally, there are always more opportunities out there. Doing online job searches or walking into local establishments and asking about summer availability costs nothing. Local work is a great way to become a more engaged member of the community while earning money or gaining volunteer experience.
