Thank you, The Argosy!

My sign-off for volume 155

Thank you to everyone at The Argosy who shared their wonderful ideas with me Hannah MacFarlane/Argosy

When people ask me what I will miss the most about my time at Mt.A, I always respond, “The Argosy.” Coming up to the office after a long day always makes me feel at home. In the summer between my first and second year, I applied for The Argosy on a whim. I hadn’t quite found a community at Mt.A yet, and I had always liked writing and news, so I thought it would be a good fit. I was very nervous during my online interview (and my dog would not stop barking), but after speaking with the co-editors-in-chief at the time, I immediately knew I wanted to be part of this.

Over the past three years, I have taken on a few roles at The Argosy. In my first year with the paper, I started as a news reporter. I took on the role of news editor the following year, and now, in my third and final year, I am a Co-Editor-In-Chief, alongside Jaya Condran. Each of these roles have taught me something unique, and I will carry these lessons with me into my future endeavors.

When people ask me what I learned from these roles, I often respond, “I learned how to be myself.” Throughout my life, I have experienced anxiety about what people think of me, but through my work at The Argosy, I have become more confident and recognize that my ideas deserve to be heard. Over the past few years, I have found that I am most comfortable sharing my pitch ideas with a group of peers.

As I wrap up my time here at The Argosy and Mt.A, I want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone at The Argosy who shared their wonderful ideas with me  — and tolerated my painful jokes. Thank you to the campus and the greater Tantramar community for reading our weekly publications. Lastly, I would like to thank myself for taking the chance to apply here and allowing myself to take on this opportunity and grow as a future journalist and as a person. If I hadn’t gotten involved with the newspaper, I would not have applied to the University of King’s College for my Master’s degree in journalism.

The Argosy will always hold a special place in my heart. I am excited to see what the upcoming team will publish for Volume 156!
