Ice cream, you scream

Trueman’s welcomes spooky season with after dark event

Trueman Blueberry Farms is a household name for Mt. A students when it comes to sweet days out with friends, and even sweeter treats. From their ice cream parlour, to farm fresh goodies, and fun seasonal events like their Tulip Festivals and Easter Egg Hunts, Trueman’s does it all. But when the air begins to catch a chill, the wholesome farm turns into a haunted paradise.

Trueman’s kicked off Halloween season the right way September 28, with their annual “After-Dark Event”, a spooky, fun for all ages, after-hours evening filled with seasonal activities and yummy snacks. The event opened at 5 p.m., with the lighting of the bonfire, inviting guests to snuggle up and keep warm in the late September air. The night was rounded off with train and wagon rides, carnival style-games, and access to their ‘Happy Place’ activities, such as the jumbo jumper and slide.

This year’s celebration looked a little different, as Trueman’s was one of the 75 farms selected by the company Peanuts Worldwide to create a themed corn maze, in honour of 75 years of Peanuts. The hard-working farmers of Trueman Blueberry Farms carved a delightful picture of Snoopy into the maze, an image that can only be seen from above. Guests were invited to navigate their interactive, Charlie Brown-inspired labyrinth, a task made even more difficult in the dark. The objective was to find your way from one end to the other, learning Peanuts trivia as you go. Once you have successfully exited the maze, you can be entered for a chance to win a free trip for four to visit Knott’s Berry Farms, in Buena Park, California. Knott’s was first opened as a family-owned, roadside berry stand in the 1920s, and over the last century has transformed into the twelfth most popular amusement park in North America. This is a prize well worth braving the maze for!

This event also featured the launch of a new specialty treat, the S’mores Brownie Sundae! Created with the bonfire in mind, this sundae features a soft, fresh baked brownie topped with toasted marshmallow fluff, and a scoop of any flavour of their signature ice cream. Decorated with chocolate shavings, bits of waffle cone and a cherry on top, it is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. If this sundae is too cold for an autumn evening, they are now also serving hot chocolate at their canteen. To top it all off, Trueman’s seasonal ice cream flavours have returned this autumn! As the weeks roll by, they will now be featuring new autumnal flavours, such as pumpkin, from gourds picked fresh on-site.

Missed the After-Dark Event? There are more ways than one to get in on the autumn ambiance. For the duration of October, they will be offering a Pumpkin U-Pick, where you can select the very best pumpkins in the patch to carve, or simply have a photoshoot with friends. They are now offering an “all you can carry bag”-special, wherein you can fill a sack with as many pumpkins as you can safely carry back to the checkout. Thankfully, this task is made easier with the wagon rides the staff offer, providing transportation to and from the pumpkin patch for the whole family. Be sure to shop local this autumn, and support an over 200-year-old family business that takes pride in sustainability, quality, and fun! Thanksgiving and Halloween are just around the corner, and Trueman’s is the perfect place to celebrate with your loved ones. Take advantage of their High-Bush Blueberry, Raspberry, and Pumpkin U-Picks before the season ends!
