I guess we’re really in the piss now huh

I was wasting my time scrolling through Instagram reels last week and came across something that made me stop and think: a video that portrays someone pissing on the Ralph Pickard Bell Library sign located on the campus of Mt. A, with the Dexter theme song playing. Turns out, this is part of a larger phenomenon that seems to be taking the world by storm: people taking a leak on their university campus. Local university accounts like “The Dalhousie Pisser,” “The St.FX Pisser,” “The MUN Pisser,” “UNB Pisser,” “Saint Mary’s Pisser,” “The AcadiaU Pisser,” “Fundy Bay Pisser,”, and more, all have videos posted of them pissing on their respective campus buildings. The largest of these accounts appears to be the Dalhousie Pisser, with over 7500 followers and a bio that reads “Catch me if you can…”. To uncover why these accounts are all able to gather a large following by Maritime standards (over 200 followers), we must examine the context of these videos, beyond the piss.
After immediately sending the video to both of my roommates, I went to the comments to investigate the situation and found an account called “Mount A Pisser Hunter”. Turns out, almost all these pisser accounts are being followed by an account dubbing themselves the Pisser Hunter at their university. They tease each other in a game of cat and mouse that their followers can enjoy. The Pisser account will post a video of them watering a sign or building on campus, and then the Hunter will comment and post a video from their perspective at the same location as the Pisser’s original video, vowing to catch the pisser one day. It’s reminiscent of the crime thriller Dexter, but with indecent exposure charges at stake instead of murder charges.
I initially intended to make contact with Mt. Apisser, and created a list of questions to send them. Unfortunately, it appears that the account’s Instagram DMswere locked, and I wasn’t able to establish a connection. In place of their responses, I’ll leave some of the questions here for your consideration. Hopefully thinking about their potential answers will act as a sort of diuretic for your mind, increasing the flow of your brain’s stream as you consider the ethics of this urinary phenomenon.
1: What specifically made you decide to become the Mt.A pisser? I get that it’s funny but what aspect of it specifically is funny to you?
2: Does it come from a place of rebellion at all?
3: Do you consider the consequences of getting caught while you’re doing it?
4: Is it real piss? Is it a water bottle with a small hole in the lid?
5: What drives you as a person?
6: What are your thoughts on the Dalhousie pisser? Do you think he’s the goat at this shit? Are you coming for his legacy?
7: What do you think validates your account over the other pisser accounts? Follower count? Views? Vibes?
8: Are you worried about the Mt. Apisser hunter IG account catching you?
- Do you think there is a God who will judge you for your actions?
10: Where do you plan for this to go? Or is/was it a short-term bit that you didn’t really think that far ahead for?
To conclude, I want to make it clear that while I, and many others, may find these videos to be semi-entertaining, it is ultimately just creating slop for the Instagram algorithm to feed us, and that despite the humour in it; there are probably many reasons that we shouldn’t be encouraging peeing on university buildings. So I hope the account owners enjoy their 15 minutes of fame, because in a month or so, the world will move on and you’ll just be known as the person who copied the guy who pretended to pee on the Dalhousie campus, and if that’s worth it for you, rock on.
P.S. Mt. A pisser if you’re reading this: Yes it would be funny to take a video pissing on this article.
