Mounties win 12 medals at AUS championship meet

Leblanc wins AUS gold, Berger and Loewen qualify for CIS championships

The Mount Allison varsity swim team gave a very successful final performance at the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) championship meet last weekend. “This weekend exceeded my expectations exponentially,” said fourth-year team captain Zoee Leblanc. “We came together as a team and finished with some of the best performances in all of my four years. It has been an honour and a privilege to swim for Mt. A, and AUS 2016 was no exception.”

The varsity swim team collectively won 12 medals and had over 20 individual swimmers entered in ‘A’ finals. Fourth-year veteran swimmer Eric Lane attributed the team’s strong performances to strong team spirit within the swimming Mounties. “Our team spirit this year was higher than I have ever seen it,” said Lane. “Particularly, we had a group team cheer before every session, which sets the session up for success. And having your teammates at the end of your lane yelling at you throughout your race” helps inspire Lane to give that extra push in races.

Both second-year student Geraint Berger and third-year student Allison Loewen had remarkable races which allowed them to qualify for the CIS championship meet. Laval University in Quebec City will host the meet later this month.
