The men’s basketball team won their lone game of the weekend 63-58 against the St. Thomas Tommies in Fredericton. They were led by Bradley Fuller, with 20 points and eight rebounds, and Alex Chisholm, with 15 points. Trailing coming into the fourth quarter, the Mounties outscored the Tommies 22-10 to complete the comeback win. The win gives them seven wins and 10 losses, currently sitting fifth in the ACAA.
The women’s basketball team also won their only game of the weekend over the Tommies 60-48. The win broke a three-game losing streak and fourth win of the season over St. Thomas. Maddyson McDonald led the offence with 16 points off the bench. Katie Lund contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals for a great allaround performance. The Mounties now have nine wins and five losses on the season, sitting third in the ACAA with four games remaining. The men’s and women’s basketball teams’ next games are Tuesday, Feb. 16 against the University of King’s College and Saturday Feb. 20 against Mount Saint Vincent, both at home.
The women’s hockey team had the final two games of their season this past weekend, being defeated in both. On Saturday, the Mounties battled the top-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies, losing 3-2. Shelby Colton and Jennifer Bell scored their fifth and fourth goals of the season in the second period, respectively. Keri Martin made 26 saves on 29 shots in defeat. On Sunday, the Mounties travelled to Fredericton to face off against St. Thomas, falling 4-2. Amanda Volcko scored her fourth goal of the season on the powerplay midway through the third period. Late in the third, Jessica Campbell scored the first goal of her Mounties career. The Mounties finished the season fourth in the ACAA, setting up a first-round best-of-three playoff series against fifth-ranked St. FX starting Wednesday, Feb. 17.
