But first, let’s make a pitstop. Canada’s Next Drag Race Superstar is a spinoff of American reality show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, a show where contestants compete for the grand prize of $100,000 CAD, and the title of ‘Canada’s Next Drag Race Superstar.’ In Canada, past seasons are currently available for streaming on Crave. Season six of Canada’s Next Drag Superstar features Judges, Brooke Lynn Hates, RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 runner-up, Brad Goreski, and Traci Melchor. Brad Goreski is a Canadian-American fashion stylist and has been one of the regular judges since 2021. Traci Melchor is a Canadian television personality who has been working with the show since 2020 when it first aired as ‘Canada’s Squirrel Friend,’ in charge of assisting the competing queens with mini-challenges. However, she has become a permanent judge since 2021.

Now presenting, Mya Foxx, (@Myafoxx_hfx on Instagram), a 31 year-old Canadian drag performer from Halifax, N.S. While Fox is not a novice to the world of drag reality TV competition, having participated on the second season of Call me Mother, another Canadian drag competition show, she is the first Nova Scotian Drag queen on Canada’s Drag Race.  Mya is representing both the maritime community and the Inuit community. She mentioned in an interview that while she is not the first Indigenous drag performer on the show, she is the first Inuit performer, which is something she implements loud and clear into her drag. Her style can be described as a mix of urban fashion with Indigenous influences. In a statement, Fox says “people dismiss us, people underestimate us.” Fox said “I am here to prove East Coast drag is frigging fierce, okay?”

Last but not least, Moncton darling Sami Landri, (@samilandri on Instagram), is a 26 year-old Drag performer from Moncton N.B. Landri is a proud Acadian, and has found great success online with her ‘Fran-english.’ Landri has gone viral multiple times on both TikTok and Instagram for the clip where she famously says “As-tu un lighter?”, and another where she says “As-tu un cigarette?” Landri describes her drag as “trash chic” – being messy, fun and not caring about what others think. Landri’s persona is infectious throughout her own viral clips, and an iconic introduction recorded as a promo for the show. In the promotional clip, Landri exclaimed “Hemmoridhs!” with a cheerful tone of voice after sitting on a cold stool. Landri has her own sense of humour and she is not afraid to show it! In regard to the upcoming competition, Landri said “As-tu un lighter? Because I am about to set the competition on fire!”

Canada’s Drag Race sixth season is about to premiere on Nov. 20. The season has a total of 12 contestants and will be airing for a total of nine episodes. The season will be broadcast on the streaming service Crave, and on WOW Presents Plus internationally. So strap in as we see if our favourite maritime queens make it to the final!
