One of the most useful resources you are going to use for your studies is the library. There are two libraries on campus, the Ralph Pickard Bell Library and Alfred Whitehead Music Library, where librarians will gladly assist you in locating a book or information you need for your assignment.

As well as the library’s physical spaces, you can also search and access books and other resources through the website at https://libraryguides.mta.ca/main. You will see a few useful links on the home page: ‘Novanet Search’ allows you to access online and physical resources that we have at the Mt. A library as well as in all of Atlantic Canada. If a book is not in any New Brunswick or Nova Scotia university, you can submit an ‘Interlibrary Loan Request’ to any Canadian university. Many textbooks and assigned readings for classes can be borrowed this way.

Databases that are available through the library are another helpful resource. Not only can you look for articles, books, and other works on a platform specific to your field of research, you can also access popular, classic, and arthouse movies on such databases as Criterion on Demand, Kanopy, National Film Board, music such as Medici.tv, Naxos Music Library and plays through Drama Online, National Theatre Collection, Theatre in Video, and more. These databases can be used for any of your classes or general interests.

‘Technology and service’ is also included in your student fees, which includes computers in the libraries, printers, and audio and video equipment in the music library and Screen Studies Department.

Next on the list are mail services; Mt. A students have access to ordering and picking up mail and parcels at the bookstore, which has recently expanded to student mail lockers and the Amazon locker. Mt. A’s annual yearbook The Allisonian is also available freely to students and often available in the Wallace McCain Student Centre (WMSC) with other Mt. A merch such as T-shirts and accessories.

Each full-time student fee package includes access to the fitness centre and the University pool located in the lower level of the Athletic Centre. The fitness centre, located on the ground floor of the WMSC is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. In addition to the general access to the equipment at the centre, you are able to join in for the fitness programs that happen there on a regular schedule. You can find more information about the programs at https://mountiepride.ca/fitness/fitness_programs

A portion of your student fees support The Argosy and CHMA-FM, the independent and non-profit student newspaper (you are reading it right now!) and radio station that features regular shows hosted by students and community members. Both are great resources to stay informed about local news and events as well as broader pop culture. Check out the CHMA website for their live and recorded shows at https://www.chmafm.com/welcome/

Last but not least is your MASU membership. A student union membership includes  full or partial coverage of a student’s medical expenses, including health and dental coverage. Members can also loan bicycles during the summer months, can often borrow snow shoes in winter, access the student pantry, and programs such as the Food Box Program: receive $35 worth of fresh produce for $15 every month! Note that your membership differs on whether you are a full-time, part-time, or international student, so make sure to check out more details on their website at https://www.masu.ca/health-dental
