Spreading holiday joy in Sackville

PEDVAC’s Christmas Box Program and Christmas Cheer 2023

As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of giving is thriving in Sackville. This community support is thanks to two remarkable initiatives: the PEDVAC Annual Christmas Box Program and Christmas Cheer 2023, organized by the Tantramar Community Association.

The PEDVAC Annual Christmas Box Program, a heartwarming tradition in the Port Elgin area, is now accepting applications from families and individuals who could use a helping hand during the holiday season. This program, orchestrated by the PEDVAC Foundation, aims to spread joy by providing Christmas boxes filled with essentials for a special holiday feast. Each box includes all the ingredients for a Christmas dinner, additional groceries for the Christmas week, toys for every child, gifts for each family member, as well as knitted items and small seasonal treasures like ornaments and Christmas candy.

If you or someone you know is in need, applications for Christmas boxes can be filled out at the PEDVAC center, located at 12 Church St., Port Elgin, NB, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the deadline for submissions being December 1. Those wishing to refer others to the program can contact the PEDVAC Foundation at (506) 538-7638. To make this program a success, area service groups, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to contribute through monetary donations of $10 or more, for which they will receive an official income tax receipt.

In-kind donations of food, toys, and knitted items are also greatly appreciated. Additionally, the PEDVAC Foundation is seeking volunteers to assist with wrapping gifts and delivering these special Christmas boxes. For more information or to get involved, please contact [email protected].

A second initiative, the Tantramar Community Association is organizing Christmas Cheer 2023, an initiative that offers assistance to those less fortunate. This program provides essential support— including food, clothing, and toys —to households in need over the holiday season. If you or someone you know could benefit from this assistance, please call (506) 536-8883 or (506) 536-5556 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. before December 5. Christmas Cheer offers a range of support, including grocery vouchers, clothing, toy bags, gift cards, and more.

For community members or groups looking to contribute to Christmas Cheer 2023, reaching out to the Tantramar Community Association at [email protected] will provide more information on how to get involved. Together, these initiatives exemplify the true meaning of the season by fostering a sense of community, compassion, and generosity in Sackville.

Adding to the Sackville festive magic, Truman’s Blueberry Farm has an advent calendar for sale. Customers can purchase 24 individual tubs of ice cream packaged together in a box for $60. With limited capacity, they begin pre-selling these treats in late summer and cut off pre-orders the first weekend of November.

Even though the ice cream advent calendar has unfortunately sold out for this year, the farm’s back porch, spanning 3000 square feet, has been transformed into a Christmas tree walk. With the addition of 12 beautifully decorated Christmas trees, it creates a perfect setting for holiday photos. The Christmas tree walk will be open every weekend until December 17.
