Food and material insecurity is a reality for many in Sackville and beyond. These programs may help ‘fill the gap,’ or pique your interest in giving back. Remember, community is crucial, so check out these free resources:
BUDZ Trading Zone Sackville: A Facebook group to trade food, clothing, furniture, and more. Similar groups exist across the country, and members can request specific items or post things they would like to give away. Through Budz I recently acquired homegrown kale and a lamp to light up dark, long hours of formatting at The Argosy.
Sackville Food Bank: Registered members can pick up food items bi-weekly at 9B Willow Lane. Information to register is available on their website, sackvillefoodbank.ca. Apply through an online form; their policy is to turn nobody away.
Community Sharing Cupboard: Run by the Sackville Food Bank, any community members can pick up food items or contribute at 18 Lorne St. behind the Sackville Commons 24/7.
Sackville Public Library: With a free membership for NB residents, request books from over 60 public NB libraries, access online books, and rent audiobooks, object collections, movies, get free passes to NB attractions such as the Bay of Fundy, and more. On 66 Main St.
Free Little Libraries: Scattered across town, these mini-libraries hold books of all kinds to take or donate to. Find registered locations through littlefreelibrary.org or by wandering!
For Students:
The Pantry: A free food bank space in room 282 of the Wallace McCain Student Centre, open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mt. A’s Chapel hosts the Dress to Impress closet in their basement during opening hours. Find free professional clothing to wear to any event.
Mt. A’s Enactus Period Project group provides free period products to over 20 locations at Mt. A. Find these little baskets in bathrooms across campus.
